New county budget proposal could jeopardize Asheville, Buncombe Schools’ programs, staff

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools could face some tough decisions after County Manager Avril Pinder presented her 2025-26 fiscal year budget proposal.

Before Tuesday’s meeting, both districts gave the commission their desired budget for next year. ACS’s plan totaled $36.4 million, while BCS’s was just over $105 million.

Pinder’s plan has ACS receiving $17.3 million next year, while BCS is slated for $95.8 million. For context, that is $100,000 more for ACS compared to last year and $500,000 more for BCS…
