ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Monday is a Weather Warn Day for widespread heavy rain that could produce flooding and severe thunderstorms across the region.
An area of low pressure moves from the Gulf, northeast across WNC and the Upstate.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the foothills, northern mountains, Henderson, Transylvania and southern Jackson counties until 8 a.m. Tuesday. The Flood Watch may be expanded as heavy rain moves into the area.
Rain chances increase later Sunday night, with waves of rain likely throughout the day on Monday. In addition, there is a now a marginal (level 1 out of 5) risk for some severe thunderstorms. Damaging wind, hail and even an isolated tornado are possible.
While this flood threat is nowhere near the magnitude of Hurricane Helene, individuals should remain weather aware and ready to move to higher ground and a sturdy building if a warning is issued…
