Upcoming Night Closure on Patton Ave to Complete Carter Ann Patton Stormwater Project

The City of Asheville wants to make residents, businesses, and commuters aware of upcoming traffic control and paving work in the area of Patton Avenue, beginning Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

This work marks the final phase of construction for the Carter Ann Patton Stormwater project.

Night Closures and Paving Schedule (7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.):

  • Wednesday, May 21: Closure of the Clingman Avenue & Patton Avenue intersection for milling and overlay work.
  • Thursday, May 22: Closure of the French Broad Avenue & Patton Avenue intersection for milling and overlay work.
  • Friday, May 23: If needed, an additional night closure to complete the resurfacing of the intersections.
  • Paving will also take place on Carter Street and N Ann Street (north of Patton Avenue)

Detour Information for the Clingman Avenue & Patton Avenue intersection:

  • Westbound traffic leaving downtown should use N French Broad Avenue to access I-240.
  • Eastbound traffic headed into downtown should use exits 4C, 5A, or 5B to access downtown.

Detour Information for the French Broad Avenue & Patton Avenue intersection:

  • Use Ashland Avenue, Hilliard Avenue and Clingman Avenue

Following the paving work, contractors will plant trees in designated areas and complete remaining punch list project items as the final step before completing the project. The City of Asheville appreciates the community’s patience as crews have carried out this important work…
