The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has no idea how investing in human capital pays off for Western North Carolina — but we do.

AmeriCorps brought our daughter, newly graduated from college in Pennsylvania, to Marshall in the early 2000s. Its scholarship benefit paid for her master’s degree at Western Carolina University while she worked at MANNA FoodBank. She went on to teach math in Buncombe County schools. Now at UNC Asheville, she helps train future math teachers…
