Permanent bridge coming after Helene flooding closes vital western North Carolina IV plant

MARION, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Work is underway to rebuild a permanent bridge at the country’s largest producer of IV fluids.

The N.C. Department of Transportation reported Thursday that crews are making progress at the Baxter International facility in northern McDowell County after the building was damaged and the bridge entering the facility was destroyed from flooding during Hurricane Helene.

Baxter was forced to halt production for nearly two months after the historic storm, until a temporary structure was put in place in November. A levee broke nearby and flooded the 1.4 million-square-foot plant with about four feet of water…
