ALERTS: Flash Flood Warnings have been issued for the following counties in our region:
- Tazewell County
- McDowell County
Tonight will see isolated downpours much like the ones we’ve seen in the past few days. Tonight’s heavy rain will mostly impact our eastern counties. Saturated ground from showers earlier this week will increase the risk for isolated high water. Please do not try to cross flooded roads. Low temperatures tonight will sit in the mid 60s.
Tomorrow sees a mostly dry morning with more scattered downpours starting to work their way in near lunchtime. Later in the evening, we will see our eastern counties receive up to 2 inches of rain. Again, saturated ground greatly increases our risk for localized flooding in cases of heavy rainfall. Throughout the day, we will see temperatures rise to the low 80s.
Monday, we can expect light rain in the morning accompanying lows in the upper 60s. As a cold front approaches from the north, we will see a few thunderstorms pop up as we reach highs in the upper 80s. Severe activity is not anticipated, but heavy downpours and some hailstones here and there are on the table.
Tuesday sees our cold front arrive and sweep through our region. Prior to the front’s arrival, we can expect light rain in the morning with lows in the upper 60s. The front will make initial contact with our western counties just before lunchtime, firing off some storms on the stronger side. The main hazard to look out for will be heavy rain. Cold air moving in behind the front will bring our highs down to the upper 70s.
Wednesday brings much drier conditions on the back side of our front. Cooler, dry air will give us lows in the low 60s. As the day progresses, abundant sunshine will allow us to warm up to the low 80s.
Thursday, we can expect those conditions to continue. Lows in the morning will dip into the low 60s. The sun will come out once again to bring us highs in the low 80s. A scattered sprinkle can be seen here and there, but the vast majority of the region will stay dry.
Friday is Independence Day, and the weather couldn’t be better for it! Strong high pressure in place will grant us a beautiful, sunny day to celebrate the holiday. Clear skies will allow temperatures to reach the upper 80s.

Saturday will start off dry with lows in the mid 60s. As we approach our highs in the upper 80s, we will see a few showers pop up as instability increases. These showers will be rather mild in nature, so flooding is not anticipated.
Looking ahead, we see showers return early next week as another cold front approaches from the north. Highs will be in the 80s…
