Driver hit, killed on I-40 shoulder in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – A driver was killed Sunday morning when they pulled onto the shoulder and were hit by a passing vehicle on Interstate 40 in Asheville.

The Asheville Police Department said 35-year-old Carlos Alfredo Amaya-Segovia pulled onto the right shoulder near mile marker 51 on I-40 when his 2008 Ford F-250 truck experienced a mechanical failure while towing a trailer.

According to the police department, around 7:36 a.m., a 2021 Ford F-450 truck also towing a trailer and traveling eastbound attempted to change lanes and hit Amaya-Segovia’s disabled vehicle…
