MARSHALL – Local bike shop owners began working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation on possible safety improvements to an “integral” road for Asheville’s cycling culture — months before two young cyclists were killed during a weekly ride.
Adam and Alex Webber, owners of On Your Bike, a bike repair and coffee shop in downtown Marshall, started reaching out to NCDOT about N.C. 251 in May after hearing and experiencing numerous stories of “scary near misses” with vehicles on the road.
