3 saved from flash floods in western North Carolina

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. – Three people and their pets had to be rescued Friday from floodwaters after thunderstorms rolled over parts of western North Carolina.

According to McDowell County Emergency Services, emergency crews spent Friday evening responding to incidents across McDowell County after thunderstorms dropped up to six inches of rain in certain areas, creating flash floods.

In one incident, three residents and their pets were saved from flood waters on Owl Hollow Road. Crews also responded to Spacious Skies Campground when flooding from the North Muddy Creek damaged several campers and a vehicle on site.
