WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — On August 2, a sanitary sewer overflow occurred in Waynesville, resulting in approximately 50,000 gallons of untreated wastewater entering Richland Creek, according to a press release from the Town of Waynesville.
According to the press release, the bypass began at approximately 6 p.m. on August 2 and ended by 7:30 p.m. The bypass occurred due to mechanical failure at the plant’s headworks.
