West Asheville new sidewalk construction begins on Patton Avenue. Any traffic impact?

ASHEVILLE – Construction has begun on a new sidewalk coming to a key section of West Asheville’s Patton Avenue. It will bring nearly a half-mile of accessible connectivity to the highly trafficked corridor, a stretch with a history of crashes, where sidewalks are largely disconnected.

The project has a five-month construction timeline and is expected to be completed in late 2025, according to a July 31 city news release.

It will build .45 miles of sidewalk along the eastbound lanes of Patton Avenue from Druid Drive to Louisiana Avenue. The project includes the installation of curbs and gutters, crosswalks and bus pads, which are built in the street adjacent to bus stops to prevent asphalt damage…
