Officials: Woman facing federal charges after assaulting child in WNC

CHEROKEE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina reports a woman is facing federal charges after assaulting a child, which caused serious injury.

According to allegations in the three count bill of indictment, 39-year-old Shawnenna Caroline Roland assaulted a child, which led to permanent and protracted loss and impairment of the child’s mental and emotional function.

The indictment also reports Roland showed reckless disregard for human life through a willful act and grossly negligent omission in the care of the child, which resulted in serious bodily injury…
