2 earthquakes struck Western North Carolina hours apart, records show

LAKE TOXAWAY, N.C. (WBTV) – A pair of earthquakes struck the same area in Western North Carolina just a few hours apart over the weekend, data showed.

Data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) showed the first quake hit just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. The second came slightly more than two hours later around 9:15 a.m. Both struck the Lake Toxaway area in Transylvania County.

USGS data showed the two earthquakes both had epicenters north of the lake, on either side of Blue Ridge Road…
