ASHEVILLE – As temperatures hover in the mid-to-upper 80s during this August in Western North Carolina, locals and tourists may be scouting a spot to cool off in the region’s refreshing lakes, streams and waterfall pools.

In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Helene, which brought devastating flooding to WNC waterways last fall, many people have been concerned about the safety of swimming and other water recreation.
