HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina’s Health and Human Services Secretary Devdutta Sangvai sent an open letter to State Legislators, warning of possible Medicaid program cuts affecting millions of North Carolinians and reductions to providers due to funding gaps from the Federal government.
Sangvai wrote about cuts to programs like end-of-life hospice care programs.
Executive director of Free Clinics in Hendersonville, Pauline Carpenter, dedicated much of her career to helping low-income individuals find ways to cover medical bills when federal funding was lacking and they faced unpaid bills for services. The clinic she runs has operated on grants and donations since 2001.
