HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Two Banks Development Landfill in Haywood County has been issued another notice of violation letter on Aug. 27 from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
This notice comes just five days after another notice that cited five violations. The latest violation, which carries a fine of $15,000 per day if TBD doesn’t come into compliance by Sept. 30, was that the landfill was discharging pollutants into surface water.
The letter said TBD was in violation of the following: “A site shall meet the following surface water requirements: (A) a site shall not cause a discharge of pollutants into waters of the State that is in violation of the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), under Section 402 of the Clean Water Act, as amended, or that is in violation of 15A NCAC 02B.”…
