An upcoming event will bring together high school students for a free interactive day of career exploration, professional networking and hands-on learning designed to spark interest in healthcare careers and strengthen the local workforce pipeline.
The Health Careers Education and Awareness Conference, organized by MAHEC and hosted in partnership with Isothermal Community College, will take place on Sept. 23, 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the college campus in Spindale. Supported by funding from the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, the event is part of a MAHEC initiative to ensure that students in both urban and rural areas have access to high-quality career education and training pathways.
With a theme of “Inspiring the Next Generation of Resilient Healthcare Leaders,” the conference will bring together high schoolers from Buncombe, Henderson, Polk, Rutherford, McDowell, and Transylvania counties for the opportunity to:
- Engage in hands-on healthcare simulations and skills activities
- Attend career panels featuring healthcare professionals from across the region
- Connect with healthcare educators, employers, and training programs
- Enjoy free breakfast and lunch, provided for all attendees
“This event is a reflection of MAHEC’s mission to inspire and equip the next generation of healthcare professionals and expand access to care for all,” said Leslie Council, director of health careers. “Our goal is to provide future healthcare leaders with the vision, skills, and resilience they need to step into roles that will transform and create healthier communities across Western North Carolina and beyond.”…
