ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — New animals that arrive at the WNC Nature Center usually have a temporary home called “a quarantine space,” but that space was destroyed nearly a year ago by Helene.
The Friends of the Nature Center organization is now launching its annual campaign, and this year’s goal of $75,000 will go to building a new quarantine space for all the new arrivals, according to a Sept. 4 news release.
The release said Helene caused the Swannanoa River to flood, which tore down the historic Recreation Park Bridge. Floodwaters that breached the wildlife park’s perimeter also completely wiped out the animal quarantine area, the release said.
