HCA Healthcare and Mission Health have agreed to a settlement with several Western North Carolina municipalities in a three-year lawsuit accusing the hospital system and its corporate owner of antitrust violations.
The cities of Brevard and Asheville, along with Buncombe and Madison counties, reached an agreement that stipulates that Mission Health will donate $1 million to a newly established charitable fund to provide assistance with healthcare costs for people at up to 400% of the federal poverty level and will promise to keep Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard open for three more years beyond the 10 it originally committed to.
