Inspired by the bravery and sacrifices of first responders on September 11, 2001, Asheville’s Workout Anytime hosted its Memorial Stair Climb this week. The event challenges participants to climb 2,071 steps — the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs — mirroring the height of the World Trade Center.
This year marks 24 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when nearly 3,000 people lost their lives, including many first responders who rushed into the towers as part of the rescue effort.
“This is an annual event,” said the gym’s General Manager, Dan Williams. “We feel it’s a meaningful way to connect with the community on a subject that many people have deep emotional ties to.”…
