Family receives new home one year after Helene

YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – One year after Helene, many families are still without a home. The Polgaz family is one of them, but that is about to change.

The Polgazs live in Burnsville, a town in Yancey County, which got 30″ of rainfall during Helene. The flooding caused entire houses to float away, including the Polgaz’s home.

“I was just praying the water would stop,” Ashley Polgaz said. “It really just felt surreal because I don’t think we ever dreamed we’d be watching our house float down the river.”…
