UPDATE: Officials release details on I-40 shutdown near TN/NC state line

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — On the evening of Friday, Oct. 3, Interstate 40 was closed in both directions in Haywood County near the Tennessee state line due to a collision that began just before 7 p.m., according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Traffic alerts from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said the eastbound lanes were closed near mile marker 3, and the westbound lanes were closed near Cold Springs Creek Road, four miles past Exit 7.
