Asheville firefighter recruits complete final 24-hour training prior to graduation

WOODFIN, N.C. (WLOS) — Responding to a fire is no easy feat, but some of the training that firefighters undergo can be just as challenging, especially when it involves entering a burning building.

The exercise was just one part of the Asheville Firefighter Academy’s rigorous final 24-hour training, which was held starting on Oct. 3 before graduation at the Woodfin Training Facility on Oct. 4.

Heavy black smoke was pouring out the window as trainees climbed two stories up a ladder. Instead of running away from the fire, they’re running towards it, seeming to disappear into darkness as they make their way inside…
