Firefighters battle debris fire in Mills River, expected to burn for hours

MILLS RIVER, N.C. (WLOS) — Firefighters in Mills River have been working since early Saturday morning, Oct. 4, to extinguish the flames of a debris fire in the area of Boylston Highway and Old Haywood Road.

The firefighters are still at the Riverside Stump Dump, where debris piles are covered in flames and smoke.

“This is a large-scale event, and we’re going to be here for many more hours,” said Captain Chris Ballinger with the Mills River Fire Department…
