AmeriCorps alumni reunite in Asheville for weekend of service 20 years after Katrina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — This weekend, a group of AmeriCorps alumni who first served during Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts 20 years ago reunited in Asheville to continue their tradition of service.

Crews were spread out at multiple locations, from building homes with Habitat for Humanity to cleaning the Swannanoa River, and distributing native trees with Asheville GreenWorks.

“We’ve got folks here from all over the country, from Oregon to New England,” said Elise Shadler with AmeriCorps. “I think everybody’s really just wanted to contribute.”…
