Jilted lover sneaks up on ex-girlfriend shopping at Publix and plunges ‘folding-blade’ into her so she would hurt ‘as much as she was hurting him’

A North Carolina man is headed to prison for surprising his ex-girlfriend at a Publix supermarket while she was shopping and plunging a “folding-blade” knife into her as she attempted to leave. A store manager who was working at the time intervened after “hearing her screams” and managed to save the woman’s life, prosecutors say.

“According to the victim, Miner unexpectedly appeared while she was shopping and followed her to her car,” the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office explained in a press release Tuesday announcing Matthew Miner’s prison sentence for the 2024 stabbing.

The 63-year-old has been ordered to serve between 12 and 15 years for trying to kill his ex-girlfriend, who has not been publicly identified, at a Publix in Weaverville.
