Fiancée of deceased cyclist urges leaders to make roads safer for cycling

MADISON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The fiancée of Leonard Antonelli, a cyclist who was killed in Madison County due to a dump truck accident, is going before local leaders asking them to use her loss as a catalyst to make roads safer.

On July 1, 2025, three cyclists were struck by a dump truck on NC-251 in Madison County, killing Jacob Hill, 32, and Leonard Antonelli, 27, both of Asheville. Officials said the dump truck had crossed into the opposite lane and hit the cyclists.

Antonelli’s fiancée, Maddi Bornadeau, went before the French Broad Metropolitan Planning Board (MPO), giving a heartfelt speech and asking the board to allocate local funds to NC-251/Riverside Drive to make the road safer for cyclists…
