Treasure hunters turn gold into good, donate $16,000 to Helene recovery efforts

BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS, N.C. (WLOS) — A treasure hunt that captivated thousands across the Blue Ridge Mountains has come to an end and it ended with a surprise that’s worth more than gold.

After 10 days of decoding maps, watching weather patterns, and hiking mountain trails, Corey and his daughter Zoe from northeast Georgia uncovered a glass mason jar filled with more than $26,000 in real gold coins buried along the Bailey Mountain Loop in Mars Hill.
