Go Mountain Commuting, a program of the Land of Sky Regional Council, has launched Commute Friendly WNC. This initiative recognizes and supports workplaces and campuses in Western North Carolina that promote multiple commuting options. The program aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by encouraging carpooling, vanpooling, public transit, biking, walking, and remote work.
Commute Friendly WNC is a free certification program. It is open to businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and colleges in Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania Counties. The program helps organizations address issues such as long commutes, limited parking, and car affordability. Certified organizations receive resources and support from Go Mountain Commuting.
Benefits include on-site assessments, outreach materials, commuter challenges, promotional opportunities, and educational events like Bicycle Commuting 101 and Bus Ride-Along sessions.
