Victims await justice as former minister turned cabin builder pleads guilty in $2.5M fraud

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A former cabin salesman and builder charged with defrauding dozens of clients pleaded guilty in federal court.

Jason Speier was arraigned before a magistrate on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the U.S. District Courthouse in Asheville. Judge W. Carleton Metcalf accepted a plea agreement to one count of wire fraud.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Metcalf released Speier with several conditions: Speier paid a $25,000 unsecured bond and was instructed not to have any contact with the victims in his case. Other conditions of Speier’s release included surrendering his passport and that he may not leave the federal judicial district.
