Yancey County uses helicopters to clear river where missing Helene victims lived

YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — On Wednesday, Oct. 22, Yancey County Planner Chris Sigmon stood in a field by the South Toe River, once home to more than 30 campers, said area residents.

Sigmon worked to organize a major debris removal operation for a three-mile stretch of the river where the destroyed campers washed downstream. The staging area was the former county-owned campground called Patience Park.
