Asheville rental vacancies rise as residents flee Helene’s aftermath, impacting demand

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Asheville’s rental market has more available units, but industry experts say Helene has driven many people to leave Asheville, creating more vacancies.

Long-term rental home manager and broker at Greybeard Realty, Bethany Corn, said following Helene, trying to keep local people living in the area has become a challenge.

“We are noticing a slowdown in inquiries,” said Corn. “We feel some of it still may be a trend from Helene. In our portfolio of renters, we had several that were in the service and tourism industry, and we noticed a lot of them left our area, moving to Greenville and Charlotte, not really seeing those people come back.”…
