Asheville home sales slow as prices drop, inventory rises

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Home sales in Asheville are mirroring the rental market: More properties are lingering on the market longer.

Recent market data shows that the median home price in Buncombe County for September was $475,000, a decrease from $515,000 in September 2024. The average home price has fallen 14% year over year.

“We’ve seen a really large increase in the number of homes for sale in Buncombe County, especially since Helene,” said Chip Craig, owner of Greybeard Realty. “The market really took off in April in terms of inventory, availability. Inventory has pretty much doubled since the beginning of the year.”…
