Haywood County landfill claims defamation in counter suit over viral TikTok videos

A Haywood County landfill company claims a truck driver defamed and slandered them in viral TikTok videos purported to show an “angry mob” of landfill workers at a flood debris site, recent federal court filings show.

The counterclaims filed Oct. 17 in Asheville’s federal court describe a much different narrative of the events that unfolded on June 26 from those featured in the truck driver’s federal lawsuit. Two Banks Development LLC, TBD Landfill and employee Andrew Ferguson claim that driver Joseph Joines, of Maryland, defamed and slandered them in videos where Joines claims Two Banks employees tried to attack and kill him over an early morning feud at a flood debris site in Haywood County.

Two Banks alleges that Joines “selectively” recorded and “dramatized” videos to show he acted politely and respectfully towards workers, despite “belligerently threatening and swearing” at employees when he wasn’t recording, according to the filing. They claim Joines was armed with a gun and acted violently toward staff and even his coworker, Angelica Hendon, who is a plaintiff with Joines in the original lawsuit…
