LAKE LURE, N.C. — While clearing a lake bed at Lake Lure, contractor Leyon Kerklin made an unexpected discovery — a dog collar buried in the sediment. When he and his crew looked closer, they realized it was part of the Rainbow Bridge memorial, a tribute once covered in hundreds of pet collars.
Kerklin’s wife, Evelin, a follower of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, contacted the organization to report the find. The recovered collars will be photographed and cataloged by volunteer Amy Wald before being added to the group’s website.
