Asheville NAACP branch returns after 6 years, aims to drive community change

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — After a six-year hiatus, the Asheville branch of the NAACP (#5363) is returning.

“We are very excited to see it coming back. We feel like it can make a big change in our communities,” said Yvette Jives, who was at the branch’s monthly meeting on Monday.

The NAACP is a national civil rights organization founded to eliminate racial discrimination and ensure equality for minority citizens. The Asheville branch of this organization stopped meeting for six years before reorganizing last month…
