Salvation Army’s former store on New Leicester Hwy to open as winter shelter Nov. 1

ASHEVILLE – As winter approaches, new shelter options will open Nov. 1, providing nightly beds for people experiencing homelessness in Asheville and Buncombe County.

This year will see more shelter options, new providers and two operations coordinators, working to provide support across all the sites.

Typically, Code Purple beds are made available each winter, meaning emergency shelter that activates when temperatures drop below freezing — but this year, along with Code Purple, 50 “winter shelter” beds will come online…
