LAKE LURE, N.C. — Lake Lure Flowering Bridge volunteers have finished counting the latest batch of Rainbow Bridge pet collars that were recently recovered from Hurricane Helene debris. The number is 238, the largest of the three batches found so far. In all, a total of 461 collars have been found since Helene destroyed it in September of 2024.
Just like the previous two batches, LLFB volunteer Amy Wald cleaned, photographed and cataloged the collars. The full list of each collar can be found here.
Contractor Leyon Kerklin was working on clearing the lake bed last week when he spotted a dog collar in the sediment. Upon further inspection, he discovered a section of the Rainbow Bridge.
