Drivers escape injury in overnight Parkway rockslide

A rockslide on the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville last Wednesday night, Oct. 29, left some drivers shaken but uninjured.

Bruce O’Connell, owner of the Pisgah Inn, said his son-in-law encountered the scene after leaving the inn around 9 p.m. As he began to exit the tunnel, he saw blinking lights ahead.

“An F-150 right in front of him had not been able to stop in time and bounced over the first couple of boulders and got stuck in this rockslide,” O’Connell said. O’Connell said his son-in-law offered the other travelers a ride back to the inn, which they declined. Then, they had to figure out who to call about the situation…
