Veterans Healing Farm offers serenity to veterans and their families

It’s a golden, crisp fall Saturday at the Veteran’s Healing Farm in Mills River, and the sprawling ranch house in the country is alive with activity.

Three white-coated acupuncturists sit in the living room chatting, waiting for veterans who need their services. At a pottery class in the building’s sunroom, half a dozen spouses, volunteers and veterans are busy with their hands in wet clay, spinning creations on wheels or sculpting.

The airy, open kitchen near a commercial-size coffee machine often hosts cooking demonstrations. An upcoming “Friendsgiving” event will see the large counter covered in food to share for veterans and their families, while adjacent classroom space seats 22, more if necessary. Over 60 therapeutic workshops for more than 500 participants will be held there this year, on topics like medicinal plants, bread-baking, painting, sushi-making and suicide prevention…
