BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Overdose is the third leading cause of death during incarceration, according to a recent report published by the National Library of Medicine. Although drugs continue to make their way into our prisons, a number are intercepted.
In October, a joint partnership between the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, its Illegal Gun Reduction and Narcotics Task Force, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms led to the arrest of two people accused of conspiring to get controlled substances into a correctional facility.
According to the sheriff’s office, Amanda Lynn Stagaard attempted to smuggle nearly 200 suboxone strips into the Western Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain. Suboxone is commonly used to treat withdrawal symptoms, but if abused, it can be dangerous…
