Asheville City Manager Debra Campbell has named Deputy Jackie Stepp as Interim Police Chief. The appointment is effective November 21, 2025. Stepp has worked with the Asheville Police Department for 20 years and currently leads the Administrative Bureau. She will take over after Chief Michael Lamb retires in September.
Campbell said Stepp has experience and a record of public service. Stepp said she will serve the department and the Asheville community during the transition. The city will provide more information about the search for a permanent chief as it becomes available…
