Burnsville Resident Wins Nearly $1 Million Playing NC Lottery Digital Game

Matthew Shepherd, 35, from Burnsville in Yancey County, North Carolina, won a $952,821 jackpot after playing a $5 digital instant Monopoly game on a Wednesday afternoon. He won the ‘Grand Fortune’ jackpot, which has odds of 1 in 10 million. Shepherd claimed his prize at lottery headquarters the following Monday. After taxes, he received $683,651. He said he plans to invest the money and may buy a new truck.

The digital instant game is available online and through the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. It features a progressive jackpot that resets after each win. After Shepherd’s win, the jackpot reset to $150,000 and had reached over $431,000 by Monday.
