Marion woman accused of embezzling over $122,000 from local church awaits trial

MARION, N.C. (WLOS) — A Marion woman is accused of stealing more than $122,000 from a small church where she served as treasurer for more than a decade.

According to an incident and investigation report filed by the Marion Police Department, 46-year-old Misty Stockton Honeycutt is charged with embezzlement after church leaders reported a significant amount of money missing from Bible Baptist Church. Police estimate the loss totals $122,948 over 11 years.

Honeycutt was arrested this fall and booked into the McDowell County Jail. She is now awaiting trial…
