Iryna’s Law limits bail for violent crimes, raises court resources concerns

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A new state law went into effect on Monday, Dec. 1, that aims to keep violent criminals off the streets throughout North Carolina.

Iryna’s Law is named after the Ukrainian refugee who was stabbed to death in Charlotte.

“If they deserve to be in jail for a violent criminal and it costs someone’s life, they need to be in jail or be monitored continuously,” said Rondell Lance, the chairman of the Legislative and Communications Committee with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge in Asheville…
