Consecutive Code Purple nights expected in WNC during first week of Dec.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Buncombe County is expected to have consecutive Code Purple nights during the first week of December 2025 amid cold temperatures.

Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care (CoC) announced that Code Purple shelters will operate on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 4. There will also be another Code Purple on Friday, Dec. 5, according to the Buncombe County government calendar.

There will be two women’s shelters:

  • Safe Shelter – located at 27 Balm Grove
  • Transit route: W2, W1, W6
  • ABCCM’s Transformation Village (for women and women with children) – located at 30 Olin Haven Way
  • Transit route: W2

There will also be two men’s shelters:

  • Safe Shelter – located at 91 New Leicester Highway
  • Transit route: WE1 West
  • Salvation Army – located at 204 Haywood Street
  • Transit route: W5, WE1 West, WE2 West

For couples and people with pets:

  • Homeward Bound’s AHOPE – located at 19 N. Ann Street
  • Transit route: W5, WE1 West, WE2 West

Entry for all shelters begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m., according to an Asheville-Buncombe CoC press release. Sobriety and ID are not required for entry…
