Buncombe County inmate mistakenly released, search underway: sheriff’s office

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A man was mistakenly released from the Buncombe County Detention Center, according to a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office press release.

According to the BCSO, Corey Howell was released on Sunday, Nov. 30, after he was issued a release order on a written response to appear on some of his charges; however, the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office issued a hold for Howell.

“We deeply regret that this error has occurred. While we know of no immediate threat to the well-being of the public, we immediately notified the victim involved in this case of our mistake,” said Sheriff Quinten Miller in the news release…
