MARSHALL, N.C. (WLOS) — Out in the quiet countryside of Marshall, farrier Grace Washinger was recently working on trimming horse’s hooves when we caught up with her for this week’s Carolina Moment.
Not a common trade, a farrier is a craftsman who trims and shoes horses’ hooves.
“Today I’m trimming this horse here, Kinshow,” she said. “He’s a barefoot trim so he doesn’t get shoes or anything. He just needs regular maintenance. When I do these barefoot trims, I’m cleaning out the hoof and restoring the natural system. When the hoof is functioning properly like that, they stay cleaner, freer from diseases.”…
