Christmas countdown: Holiday events calendar

Ongoing• Winter Lights Festival: This annual event runs through Jan. 4 at The N.C. Arboretum in Asheville. Winter Lights is an open-air walk-through light show made from over one million lights. Giant woodland troll sightings are anticipated at this year’s Winter Lights. Tickets sold per vehicle. Visit ncarboretum.org to choose entry time.

• Jingle Bell Trolley: Ride the Jingle Bell Trolley Dec. 4-23. Bring your little ones for a 25 minute, two-mile, round-trip ride down the mountain and back in the open air trolley. At the 1940s era depot area you can visit with Santa. $23, free age 3 and younger. Visit www.tickettailor.com/events/craggymountainlinerailroad for tickets and specific days and times. At the end of your visit, have a look around at all the restored cars, decorated for Christmas.

• Holly Jolly Christmas Trolley: Hop on and off the trolley as you tour Asheville. Tours available through Dec. 30 with Gray Line Trolley, departing from Asheville Visitor Center, 36 Montford Ave. Enjoy stories of local lore and holiday traditions and join in with on-board musician singing classic carols and the songs of Christmas all while the trolley rolls past festive holiday decorations in downtown Asheville and the Montford and Grove Park neighborhoods.
