City of Asheville Announces December and January Holiday Closings and Service Impacts

Asheville City Hall offices will be closed Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, December 26, as well as January 1, 2026. The following city services will be affected by the holiday closures.

ART Bus Service

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) holiday schedule will be as follows:

  • Service will be closed after 6:30 p.m. December 24 (Christmas Eve)
  • No service on December 25 (Christmas Day)
  • Holiday Schedule will be in effect on January 1 (New Years Day) (Holiday Schedule in Spanish, Russian)

Sanitation

The Sanitation Office will be closed December 24-26.

Trash, Recycling, and Brush

  • Normal operations Monday, December 22 – Wednesday, Dec 24
  • Thursday trash collection will take place Friday, December 26
  • Brush crews will work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday

As a reminder, 8 food scrap drop-off sites are now open in the City of Asheville and Buncombe County for residential composting.

Asheville Parks & Recreation

Most parks and greenways are open on a regular schedule of 6 a.m.-10 p.m., except:

  • All areas of Azalea, French Broad River, and Recreation parks are closed.
  • Carrier Park’s ballfield, playground, skate rink, and courts are closed, but the picnic shelter, parking lot, wetland areas, velodrome, and the portion of French Broad River Greenway that runs through the park are open.
  • The portion of the French Broad River Greenway that runs through French Broad River Park is closed.
  • Some areas of Richmond Hill Park are closed and marked with signs.

All community centers and administrative offices are closed December 24 – 26 and January 1. Outdoor park features such as playgrounds, picnic areas, and sports courts adjacent to community center buildings are open from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Riverside Cemetery offices are closed, but grounds are open 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Some areas are inaccessible due to Helene-related damage…
